Well, I guess that’s the training done, it’s never enough but I’m looking forward to seeing everyone in Bilbao at the weekend. I think it’s fair to say that this year’s ride has all the ingredients to be one of our best, apart from perhaps the weather!
This will be our 9th European charity bike ride and I am excited to get back on the road with more than 100 colleagues, clients and friends in aid of Plan International and our Safer Cities programme in Nairobi, Kenya.
Last year, I had the opportunity to travel to Nairobi to see the Safer Cities project, where I met some of the young people that we are aiming to help. I saw first-hand the shocking reality of living in one of the poorest parts of Kenya. The money raised through the ride is supporting a great cause and will be vital in helping to improve girls’ safety in Nairobi.
This year’s ride will start in the historic city of Bilbao and we will wind our way through the mountains of northern Spain. We will be tackling some very demanding climbs in one of the most remote terrains in Europe. The route will see our team cycle over 700km in just five days, and climb over 13,000 meters – well in excess of Mount Everest!
I would really like to thank everyone participating in this year’s ride, it is a huge commitment for everyone involved. I would also like to wholeheartedly thank our sponsors; Redevco, Portus Retail, Citygrove, Colonial, CBRE GIobal Investors, Merlin Properties and GSF. They have done their bit, now it is time to do ours in the saddle.
